I would like to know how one would write an argument if they didn't have a side on what they had to write about. Or how a person would write an argument if they were in the middle and did not want to take either side of the topic.
One way of going about it is writing an argument in favor of a compromise, i.e. not proving that something is good/bad, but instead arguing that both sides have advantages and middle ground can be reached.
Another option is committing to a side, even if just for argument's sake, and sticking with it for the length of the paper. Writing against what you actually believe in and playing devil's advocate can be either very challenging or tiring.
